The Voltron II Project
To the casual fan, Voltron is a single combiner robot entity spread out across four separate animated series (Defender of the Universe, 3rd Dimension, Force, and Legendary Defender) between 1984 and now.
To the more dedicated fan, Voltron is in fact two separate combining robot entries that were brought to the United States in the early 1980s by World Event Productions, one of which would go on to spawn four separate series (based initially upon the Japanese anime program Beast King GoLion) and a second show based upon the anime Armored Fleet Dairugger XV.
The truest fan knows the Voltron mythos was originally intended to be a trilogy. While Dairugger’s “Vehicle Voltron” was established as Defender of the Near Universe (I) and GoLion’s “Lion Force” slated to the Defender of the Far Universe position (III), there was to be a Defender of the Middle Universe (II) based upon the anime Lightspeed Electroid Albegas that never saw the light of day.
The following site exists to give Voltron fans something they’ve been clamoring for since 1984 - the full pilot episode of Voltron II - Gladiator Force in literary form.
The author has spent years piecing together the story fragments from what little was found by way of WEP’s original notes, the structure and characters presented in the Albegas source material and a bit of liberty taken fleshing out the gaps that were never canonically connected between the two.
At long last - the complete pilot episode is here for the world to enjoy.
Fan-fiction set in the Gladiator Force universe (please review the summary page for the additional pieces of the mythos that weren't yet explored in the pilot episode) is welcome for publication consideration. Submit them to: [email protected]
